Buffering at kickoff is the most common complaint in streaming, and in most homes it is fixable. The pattern is consistent: everything works at 2 PM and falls apart at game time, because your whole neighborhood is streaming too. Work through these steps in order. Each one is more effort than the last.
1. Check your actual speed at the TV
Run a speed test on the device itself, not on your laptop in the office. You need roughly 10 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream, plus headroom for everything else on your network. 2. Move to Ethernet or 5 GHz
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is crowded in apartments and dense suburbs. Switch the device to your 5 GHz network, or use an Ethernet adapter. On a Fire TV Stick an Ethernet adapter costs little and fixes most sports-night problems.
3. Restart the device, then the router
Restart the stick or box (not just sleep). Then power-cycle the router for 30 seconds. Do this weekly if you stream daily.
4. Free up the network
Pause cloud backups, game downloads and other 4K streams during the game. One console update can eat a whole connection.
5. Update and clear the app
Update your player app and clear its cache (Settings > Apps on Android-based devices). A bloated cache slows the guide and channel changes.
6. Try a different DNS
Switching the device or router DNS to a public resolver sometimes helps when one ISP is slow at peak hours.
7. Check the channel itself
If only one channel stutters while others are fine, it is a source issue. Message us the channel name and time and we will check it.
